OBJECTIVE:
To partner with the community of Sotacaballo, Nicaragua to educate, build, and install bio sand filtration systems in 32 households, resulting in 115 people with access to clean water.
BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES:
The rural village of Sotacaballo is located in the San Juan region of Nicaragua near the border to Costa Rica. We spent a week working together with the community members, who sifted all of the sand for their filters and learned how to build and install a basic (yet highly effective) water purification system in their homes.
“This is the first time I’ve seen the whole community work together to benefit everyone. Everyone is helping to make this community better, healthier. It’s beautiful.” - Yaoska
“This project is beautiful. Everyone needs clean water and before this day, we have not had it.” — Justo Pastor Luis (pictured above)
“No one ever comes here. We have never had help before. I feel calm. I’m so calm, content, and happy because we are getting clean water.” - Dora, Community Leader
